"Reflections on a Pandemic"
Discussion with Jim Baggett
Monday, January 25 @ 6:30 pm
We will connect via Zoom.
The Vagabond DreamerJim Baggett was awarded with the Alabama Library Association's Eminent Librarian Award in April 2019.
In January 2020, we hosted Jim Baggett, who presented a multi-media program on the 1918 global influenza pandemic, the worst pandemic in human history. He explained that “stores, theaters, fairs, schools, and even churches were closed to try and stop the spread of the disease.” At the time, this was hard to imagine. But now, almost a year later, we are all too familiar with what life during a pandemic looks like. A new phrase has even been coined—“Covid fatigue”.

Jim will join us again on Monday, January 25 at 6:30 p.m. to lead a discussion of life during a pandemic, and participants will be able to share their own experiences. We will record this session as a way of documenting how our community has dealt with this year’s challenges. Jim’s talks are always popular; we hope you can join us. Visit our website at moonlakelibrary.com to learn how to connect on Zoom via computer or phone.

Jim Baggett is Head of the Department of Archives and Manuscripts at the Birmingham Public Library and Archivist for the City of Birmingham. He has served as president of the Society of Alabama Archivists, Chair of the Jefferson County Historical Commission, and as a trustee for several historical associations. Jim has lectured throughout the U.S. and in Europe and has been featured on Alabama Public Television, Alabama Public Radio, National Public Radio, and C-SPAN. He has authored two books on Alabama history, edited three others, and has written more than fifty articles. Jim lives with his wife and daughter in Birmingham and Mentone.
