People are often surprised when they learn that Moon Lake Community Library is not a government-funded library, but that it’s community-funded, solely relying on book sales and donations for its funding. As such, we don't enforce any geographic limitations, so we provide free library cards to anyone who would like one (no matter where you live). Come by the library to apply for a card, borrow a book or movie, or purchase a book from our sale shelves. Need a book for the beach? Come on in! Through July, we’re offering a $1 sale on our hardcover books. We have a large selection of fiction, history and other subjects. Thanks to a generous grant from MAPA, the library now has two brand-new laptops for the community’s use. The board has developed guidelines for use, which are posted on our community bulletin board. We truly appreciate our volunteers who give a few hours each month helping check books and movies in and out, reshelving, and generally being of assistance. If you enjoy books and people, please consider volunteering. Call Dianne Kuehl at 256-634-4538 for more information. We’re excited about the Summer Community Gathering that we're hosting on July 28! We continue to offer complimentary coffee and great camaraderie. Jerry Megli is at the library every Saturday morning to play chess — if you don't yet know how to play, he will gladly help you learn. Our hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3–6 p.m. and Saturday from 9am–1pm. - Kelly Leavitt, community librarian
